Paradise for board game lovers
Hood: Andheri west
by Dhruvil Shah
If you’re like me, you would have a drawer full of card and board games as a child. But as we all grew, technology came into picture, and sadly card and board games vanished from our daily lives. Back in our childhood, we used to sit with our friends and play Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly, etc . But all those games have been replaced by electronic applications like Clash of Clans and Mini Militia. There are certain cafes in Mumbai that have 4-5 cliche games. But here comes a cafe that comes with an aim to take you away from all electrical gadgets for a couple of hours and have a memorable time with your loved ones. It is a Pair-a-Dice for board game lovers (pun intended).
Pair a Dice Cafe located in Oshiwara in Andheri(West) is a place that brings all those childhood memories back. This cafe has a collection of more than 150 board games! ( They add 10 games every month to their collection). This collection boasts of board games ranging from Snakes and Ladders to the classic Monopoly. There are a lot of new board games like Cartegana, Lords of Vegas, Forbidden Desert and Istanbul as well but there is nothing to worry about if you don’t know how to play these games. The staff at the cafe is well versed with these games and will explain you the rules of these games in no time. You can change as many games as you want in the time that you are allotted.
The pricing scheme of this cafe is also quite different. They charge per hour per person. But what makes this pricing scheme special is their unique offer. Rs. 350 for upto five hours per person in which you can buy food worth Rs. 150 from the cafe. Pair A Dice Cafe has a small kitchen that serves a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas, pastas, noodles and shakes. But the hot favourites at this place are their freakshakes, their Mexican Bhel and their Penne Pasta. A theme based cafe usually does not have food up to the mark. But the food served at Pair A Dice is quite tasty. The cafe opens at 12 pm and closes at 11:30pm. So what are you waiting for? Call your friends, get out of your phones and go to this cafe.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have your lunch in the form of an ice-cream? It may soon become a reality with the help of Monika ice-cream’s eccentric flavors. The top most flavors in the variety list include karela(bitter gourd), adrak(ginger), nimbu(lemon) and even mirchi(chilies). Whereas their special items that make the customers coming back for more include the peru(guava) ice-cream and the ice-cream pakoda. The peru ice-cream is served with sprinkled chili powder on top just the way we eat guava cut sprinkled with chili powder .The taste is simply mind-blowingly. The Ice-cream pakoda consists of a waffle like crusty sphere which is fried in oil for a few seconds then filled in with ice-cream and served with a generous topping of chocolate sauce. Now it’s up to you to decide whether it is served hot or cold.
It’s a pity that this dessert can’t be home delivered but that doesn’t stop the customers from coming over to have these delicacies again and again. This delight is available for 60 rupees only (current price). This franchise which started in Vapi, Gujarat over 19 years ago, is now flourishing in virar (address: Shop no. 1, Poonam Supreme apart., opp. New Viva College, near D-mart, Virar (w) Palghar-401303.(Mumbai)), is owned by Mr.Ramesh Jamnadas Lotiya and his staff Mr. Arjun Bhagwan, its been two whole years that they have been making their customers leave with satisfaction and a smile on their faces.
They start at around 10:30 am in the morning while the rush hour usually starts at 7:30 pm and extends up to 11:30 pm at night. Even though the shop closes at 11 pm they are always ready to do a bit more for their customers. Initially they had difficulty getting customers as no one knew about it. They placed countless advertisements in local newspapers but all went in vain. But as and when people started trying it, the products lived up to mark and the spread of word got into actions. Now he doesn’t even have to advertise since the regulars keep coming and people from nearby station hearing about it also come around and give a try.
Their regulars mostly constitute of families coming together to grab a dessert after dinner. That’s not even the end of this, they prepare exotic seasonal or festival based ice-creams which stands out than any other sweet dish to try for after dinner. For instance the motichoor ice-creams during the Ganpati festival, and our Bengali ’Rosgolla’ ice-cream also the Gulab Jamun ice-creams are prepared during diwalis and other festivities.
They also serve the all-time favorite pani-puri ice-cream with a spike of chat masala. They even accept party orders. They are quite content with the way things are going on so there are no thoughts on expanding the business as of now, as they wish to serve the people of Virar in a full-fledged way. We look forward to their more eccentric flavors which will definitely tickle our taste buds. Hoping for the customers to leave with a smile on their faces in the following years to come.
