The mission of Katalyst is to provide an enabling environment through specific development interventions and mentors, to build women leaders who are economically and socially empowered. Its core values include Integrity, Commitment, Achievement Orientation, Gratitude and Humanity. The main objectives are to prepare each Katalyst girl with knowledge, skills and attitude to succeed in life, to increase the earning and independent financial decision making capacity of each Katalyst girl leading to economic development, to prepare to do better in their job and career so that they grow in their organisation and become leaders, to be problem solvers, make informed choices and independent decision makers, to work towards making each Katalyst girl to be socially responsible and give back to society all good that they have received from others.
Katalyst believes that, “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do”. Katalyst program focuses on supporting its students through mentorship, development interventions, financial support, laptops and medical insurance, internship and placements, industrial visit and guest lectures so that students perform well in their academics, develop leadership, get better placements and salary package, grow in their career and become responsible citizens. The trainings are offered in Social skills which include English language and communication skills, interpersonal skills, improving self confidence, self defence and managerial skills which include corporate etiquette, presentation skills, aptitude, resume writing, group discussion, interview, corporate culture and also technical skills including internet etiquette and research, programming languages and applications. The training calendar is based on the college calendar and would be after college hours, mainly on weekends and holidays. And as a part of a training, some companies organize workshops and outbound for which a set of Katalyst students are invited.
Katalyst program intervention also includes “Annual Convention Goa” for Katalyst students which is organized every year where students in Katalyst get a chance to bond with one another. They also get an opportunity to hear and interact with leaders from various sectors through panel discussions, and program supporters such as mentors and donors. Katalyst reaches out to students with the support of college partners Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Sardar Patel Institute of Technology (SPIT), Somaiya College in Mumbai, College Of Engineering Pune (COEP), Cummins College for women, Vishwakarma Institute of Technology (VIT) in Pune and Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), University Visvesvaraya College of Emgineering (UVCE) in Bangalore.
At Katalyst, they believe that practical experience is important form of learning. An opportunity to do an internship makes students apply their academic learning and make them aware about the corporate life, culture, professional etiquette and expectations. Industrial visits and corporate workshops are arranged to expose them to different manufacturing and service processes, know the human resource and material requirement, and understand the company culture. Financial support is given based on the academic performance, training attendance, mentor interaction, participation in extracurricular activities, leadership and volunteering for Katalyst program. This is how Katalyst wants to be winds of change.
